We'd like to introduce you to our second official month-long event! CataclysmsIn recent days, the land has changed drastically. Where strong storms used to only occur intermittently, now they occur daily and wreak havoc on the land. Earthquakes tear large cracks so vast you can't see the other side, tornadoes destroy forests, and hurricanes devastate the coasts. Fear is palpable in every animal that inhabits this place along with you...and you're not alone. Strange creatures have appeared with no real origin. They vary from things concocted by pups' nightmares to more docile, almost recognizable animals. Known as Cryptids, they all seem to have their own agenda and it's uncertain if they can be trusted. They are broken into three factions: The Merged, Independent, and Kinfolk. The Merged are willing to further their goals by any means necessary, and aren't opposed to cruelty. They fight relentlessly with the Kinfolk, who want the land to heal and be restored and do not seek to quarrel with the local wildlife. Then the Independent remain neutral to either side, some tending to agree more with The Merged, while others side with the Kinfolk. Others stay firmly neutral, bothered by the nuisance that the other factions cause and wish only to be left alone. This chaotic world is what you find yourself facing whether you like it or not. Each faction needs your help, but you cannot help more than one without negatively impacting your reputation with another. Which faction will you choose? What actions will you take to try and restore balance to the world? It is up to you to decide. This event focuses heavily on questing and exploring. Take quests from the Cryptids of each faction and earn various rewards. The event currency (Cryptid Scales) that you earn can be used to buy items from the special shop. Your alliance choice will determine what items will be available to you to purchase, so choose wisely! DisastersOn the map, you'll notice that there might be some new icons hovering over some of the biomes every so often. The yellow warning triangles represent a Disaster that is occurring in a biome, whilst the black and red ones represent a Cataclysm. During the event, all biomes have a small chance every fifteen minutes to develop a disaster. These are essentially catastrophic weather (or similar) events, such as earthquakes, heatbursts, etc. When a disaster occurs, it will remain occurring in the biome for a minimum of 15 minutes, after which it can dissipate, persist, or even evolve into a Cataclysm. Cataclysms are essentially worse disasters, and bring a bigger path of destruction to the biome in their wake. You'll see in explore a small log above the biome that gives you some history of what's been happening in the biome. New encounters will occur during disasters and cataclysms, but also throughout the event in general, even in biomes that are currently calm. Alongside all these disasters and cataclysms are... CryptidsPerhaps attracted by the disasters, woken by them, or maybe even the cause of them... Are the cryptids! Cryptids are new creatures that can be discovered in explore. There are 6 cryptids per biome, with a grand total of 72 cryptids that can be found in the game. Cryptids are part of one of three factions - the Kinfolk, Independent or the Merged. They have different aims and may behave differently, and you can build reputation with each faction. During the event, once you have discovered and unlocked a cryptid, you may take a quest from it once a day to gain currency and reputation. The first quest of each rollover will gain you bonus reputation (+50) with that faction, and all quests after that will give +10 reputation. Keep in mind that it will also -5 reputation from the other two factions! Different cryptids (and indeed different factions) ask for slightly different type of quests to be completed for them, so it's up to you to decide which faction you'd prefer to build the most reputation with. You can take 24 quests per rollover, but are limited to 1 quest per unique cryptid per rollover, as in you cannot do 24 quests all with the same cryptid. In addition, after discovering a cryptid, if you encounter it again in explore, you are able to battle it. Indeed, you might even be required to battle some depending on quests... But don't worry, fighting cryptids in explore won't affect reputation levels, but will earn you currency. Also, it will boost the bar: The bar here is filled globally by all players contributing to it. Every cryptid you fight will add +1 to the bar, and every cryptid quest you complete will add +1 as well. Once the first tier threshold is reached, a new store called 'The Brokerage' will open, offering goodies for you to spend your new currency on. Items in the store will change based on your current reputation levels - different factions have different items to offer! More items will unlock as well as the other tiers are reached. Speaking of currency, the currency you can earn for this event are Cryptid Scales. New in 2023We have added 3 new cryptids in each biome, 1 from each faction. This means you can find 36 new cryptids total. This will likely be our last addition to the cryptids which will give you quests. If we ever add in more, they'd just be encounters. Purchasable Shop ItemsThe reputation threshold needed to side with a faction is 100 as a minimum. Siding happens automatically, and dictates what items appear in the shop for you. If you have equal reputation with one or more cryptids, no faction will be sided with until one of them has more than the other. The applicators - which will appear in Tier 3 - require a minimum of 500 reputation with the intended faction before they can become available to purchase. There are unique applicators in each faction's shop - a full set of a special base, matching claw, skin and nose colours, and a unique eye colour. The Merged will have a set of: Abomination Base (Special Dark *) Abomination Markings Corrupt Claws, Skin and Nose Fearsome Eyes (passes Fearsome and fails to Red and Black)
The Independent will have a set of: Tempest Base (Special Dark *) Tempest Markings Grime Claws, Skin and Nose Hurricane Eyes (passes Hurricane and fails to Blue, Gray and Red)
Kinfolk will have a set of: Beast Base (Special Dark *) Beast Markings Wild Claws, Skin and Nose Serene Eyes (passes Serene and fails to Gray and Green)
Additionally, all factions will have the following special item: The Dingbat Pathfinder, which will help your chosen scout to cover more distance and discover bigger areas or find an additional item! The boost will last for one scouting session. This is a full month long event that will return every year, during August. We hope you enjoy! |
